Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about the Dead Ringer before you order.
-
Yes — the Dead Ringer was designed to recreate that thumpy, muted tone you hear on records by artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift, and Jeff Tweedy. You can install it or remove it in seconds, giving you both your guitar’s natural voice and the rubber bridge sound without buying another instrument.
-
The Dead Ringer is designed to fit most standard acoustic guitars and acoustic-style electrics. For the best fit, it should feel snug — you’ll gently press to insert it and slide it against the bridge.
-
Every guitar is a little different, so each Dead Ringer comes with one 2 mm foam strip installed and three extra 2 mm strips you can add if you need more height. At the optimal setup, the fit should be snug but smooth — never forced.
-
Nope. The Dead Ringer doesn’t change your guitar’s setup, tuning, or intonation in any way. It sits flush against your bridge, creating gentle tension under the strings to produce that rubber-bridge tone — but without altering string length or pitch stability. Once you remove it, your guitar is instantly back to normal.
-
No. The soft, body-safe foam rests against the guitar without scratching or leaving marks. It won’t harm your strings or finish.
-
The high-density foam and PLA+ frame resist wear, compression, and temperature changes, holding their shape even after extended use.
-
Functionally, they’re identical. The Standard is matte black PLA+, the Rosewood Edition uses a brown PLA+ with a wood-inspired look, and the Whiteout Edition features a sleek white matte finish. All three sound and perform exactly the same — the difference is purely aesthetic.
