Does Dead Ringer really sound like a rubber bridge guitar?
Yes, the Dead Ringer recreates the percussive, muted tone you hear on records by artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift, Sufjan Stevens, and Jeff Tweedy. It installs or removes in seconds, so you can switch between your guitar’s natural voice and the rubber bridge sound without buying another instrument.
Which model Dead Ringer should I get?
Most acoustic guitars have some curve at the saddle, so the Dead Ringer Pro is the safer bet if you're not sure. The Pro's rubber is curved to match that arc, so it makes even contact across all six strings instead of over dampening the outer ones. The original's rubber is flat, which suits flatter saddles like classical guitars and some electrics.
The Pro comes in Ebony (Black). The original comes in Ebony (Black), Rosewood (Brown), and Glow (White/Green).
Will the Dead Ringer fit my guitar?
The Dead Ringer fits most standard acoustic guitars and acoustic-style electrics. Both models are 72mm wide. The original is 12mm tall and the Pro is 13mm. For the best fit, it should feel snug as you gently press it into place and slide it up against the bridge. It also works on many Telecasters and other electrics with similar bridge height, though fit can vary slightly.
What are the arrows on the Dead Ringer Pro?
The Pro has a curved top, so it goes in one way. The arrows on both sides point up, toward your bass strings. They're easy to see and feel, so it goes in right even mid-set on a dark stage. The original is flat on top and goes in either way.
What if it feels loose or too tight?
Every guitar is a little different, so each Dead Ringer includes one 2mm foam strip installed, plus three extra 2mm strips for adjusting height. Both models use the same strips. The fit should always be snug but smooth, never forced.
Can I mix models in a 2-Pack or 3-Pack?
Yes. Every pack and bundle lets you choose a model and finish for each Dead Ringer, so you can grab one original and one Pro if you've got guitars that call for both.
What if I need additional foam strips?
Every Dead Ringer includes foam strips so you can customize its height and dial in the right amount of muting for your instrument.
If you’re working with higher string height, an electric guitar or bass, or you’ve used up your included strips, we offer extra foam strips as a small add-on. We’ve got you covered.
Will it affect my guitar’s intonation or tuning?
Nope. The Dead Ringer does not change your setup, tuning, or intonation. It sits flush against your bridge and dampens the strings without creating a new termination point, so your pitch and intonation stay exactly where they were. Remove it and your guitar is instantly back to normal.
Will it damage my guitar or strings?
The Dead Ringer uses soft EPDM rubber where it contacts your guitar, and it rests in place without adhesive or pressure on the finish. We've shipped thousands with no reports of marks or damage. If your guitar has a nitrocellulose lacquer finish, we'd suggest popping it in and out as you use it rather than leaving it parked for weeks at a time.
How long does it last?
The EPDM rubber and PLA+ frame resist wear, compression, and temperature changes, holding their shape even after extended use.
Can I remove and reuse it?
Absolutely. It installs and removes in seconds and can be moved between guitars without losing grip or leaving residue.
What’s the difference between the finishes?
All finishes sound and perform exactly the same. Ebony (Black) is a matte black PLA+ frame, Rosewood (Brown) has a wood-inspired look, and Glow (White/Green) charges under light and glows on a dark stage. The difference is purely aesthetic.
The Pro is currently available in Ebony (Black).
Will it work on other instruments?
Some players use it on baritone guitars, ukuleles, or short-scale basses. It’s designed for six-string guitars, but we love seeing creative uses.
How do I install it?
No tools required. Just slide it sideways under your strings, press down, and twist until it's snug against the bridge. On the Pro, the arrows on the sides should point up, toward your bass strings. Check out our Setup Guide for a quick walkthrough.
Where is it made?
Every Dead Ringer is hand-built in Nashville, Tennessee, using premium, guitar-safe materials.
How fast do orders ship?
Orders placed before 3:00 PM Central ship the same day. Orders after that go out the next business morning. Delivery estimates start when your order ships.
What are your shipping rates?
US orders ship USPS Ground Advantage or Priority Mail. Rates are calculated at checkout based on your address, so you see the actual cost before you pay.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship worldwide. International rates are calculated at checkout in your local currency, and duties and taxes are included in the price. Nothing is due on delivery.
Brazil requires a CPF and Mexico requires an RFC at checkout.
Can I return or exchange my order?
Because each Dead Ringer is built by hand, we only accept returns for defective or damaged items. If there’s ever an issue, reach out and we’ll make it right.
